Actuary P Actex Manual
Posted By admin On 20.09.19PE = Practice Exam. I have Actex now. I glanced at ASM. Actex does a way better job of explaining the material and comes with 8 practice exams (I have the 2009 edition, the newer ones may come with more). However, ASM comes with about 20 practice exams which may be beneficial to some, but exams 6-20 are extremely difficult.
ACTEX P Study Manual, 2016 Edition ACTEX is eager to provide you with helpful study material to assist you in gaining the necessary knowledge to become a successful actuary.

If you can conquer those exams, then the real thing should be no problem. In my opinion, Actex is the way to go for P/1, along with TIA and an Adapt trial. I heard ASM is recommended for the remaining prelim exams though. PE = Practice Exam. I have Actex now. I glanced at ASM.

I heard ASM is recommended for the remaining prelim exams though. If i'm looking for more problems and more difficult problems to be overly prepared, would you recommend ASM over ACTEX? I have wiped out nearly all of the problems for chapters 1-7 in Mathematical Statistics With Applications, 6th edition, so maybe a more difficult text would be the best use of the next two months. Is ACTEX more approachable because it's written better or because it's just more easy/introductory? I just had ASM and Actex for my second try on P. I bought ASM because I used it to pass FM and really liked it, and didn't like Actex that much.
ASM for P ended up not being anywhere near as good as their manual for FM. It didn't go into enough detail/practice on the important concepts and introduced concepts you don't need. Actex ended up being my primary study manual again and I liked it much better second time. More relevant review questions and exams. After the first I think 5-10 of the ASM practice questions they become real difficult and IMO doing super difficult questions while preparing isn't super helpful.
