Aj0612 in Manchester, Pennsylvania said: I recently took the CO exam, I scored a 91. I am worried about my past because when i was 19 i got a disorderly conduct citation for peeing outside. I am 27 now, currently serving in the military and i have associates degree in police science.
Do i have anything to worry about? I don't know if you have heard from anybody yet, so if you have, I stand corrected but from what I can surmise looking at some of the other scores I have seen unless you have gotten in the high 90's or you are a veteran you stand little chance of being interviewed for the position so I wouldn't worry about it. I myself scored a 90 on the Pa CO test and I am around 471 in Montgomery county. Gus in Allentown, Pennsylvania said: When you say, 'waiting game', about what length of time is there between the different stages of finally getting hired? Weeks, months?? It was two weeks after I completed the Civil Service test that I received my score and rating.
It was another two weeks when I received two notices from two different (not from Graterford) of interest and their wanting a confirmation of my continual interest in becoming a State Officer. I immediately replied a confirmation of my interest to both of these facilities. My reply was sent about three weeks ago. (So much for 'two' being the 'common denominator'.) So at this point of the game, about how long would the waiting be? My only concern, as the information about myself is being reviewed and processed, is, if being 55 yrs old would somehow 'stop the presses'? I am aware of the specifics of the 'physical test'. I am in pretty good shape for my age and know that I will be able to pass that stage of the process.
Other than that, I am confident in my abilities to perform the expected duties. Just as a matter of interest what was your score and are you a veteran? Noahs Daddy in Clementon, New Jersey said: I'm a 38 year old Hispanic that recently moved to PA. I took and passed the Civil Service test in NJ and am currently on a waiting list. I know that my age is getting up there and time is running out but I really want to get into in PA. I have a squeaky clean background and a perfect record.
Is there an age limit in PA ( NJ is 40 for Corrections), and what do I have to do to get 'in'? There was a guy over 40 in my son's police academy for NJDOC?? You sure it's 40 for NJ?? Robert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania said: I have a question if anyone could answer.
Im 21 clean background and 49 credits. I just got my score (94 Non vet)how long can i expect to wait before im hired? To be perfectly honest you should seek other opportunities with the score you obtained on the test. You either need to be a Veteran or score somewhere around 99 or above to work for the system in Pennsylvania. All Veterans receive ten extra points and priority consideration in employment consideration. Obviously, it is nearly impossible to get a 99 unless you receive the ten extra points that a Veteran gets.
I myself hold an MBA, a BBA with majors in Management and Science and an AS in and in addition, I scored a 90 on test and I am listed at somewhere around 481 out of 2500 on the postings. Further, I am 53 years old and while in College, I spent 3 years in ROTC and was a sharpshooter on the ROTC shooting team. Thankfully, I found a job back in IT at my old pay before I was laid off the last time. As I said, look at other opportunities because you should not expect to be hired by any County or State in Pennsylvania. Five years ago the situation would have been different but the job environment has changed. Visit the Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission website for state jobs in PA. You could also consider becoming an officer or guard for a county jail.
Applicant requirements vary. It is sometimes easier to get hired part-time first. Getting peace officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. Do whatever you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. If you have to take a written test, prepare for it. Also practice your interview skills before any interviews. Best of luck!
Girl Interupted said: ok first thing.NEVER let your Aunt use your car again.lol but really don't as the car is in your name. Make sure you pay all the tickts ASAP ifyou have not already, You were not evne in the country when this happened so just be honest and tell whoever should ask you about this situation what you just told me, it is not a major incident and can prove you weren't even here so try not to worry, again just be honest, that counts for more than the all the tickets! I really don't think you need to worry about this to much, I know people who had alot worse things on thier records, putting some distance between offenses does help too, Explain & tell the truth and you should be ok, I know in NJ you would probaly be hired for State with everything you just told me, I have family members here in all fields and noone had a perfect record.again good luck!!!!!! Let me know what happens even if it is in a year from now. I want to see you on this forum saying you are a CorrectionsOfficer.' -) am concern my bankruptcy filed in 2010 due to divorce would disqualify me. Lo84 in Baltimore, Maryland said: Where would I find the information for the PT? Is it like the police academy or army where you have to run a mile within 14 or 15 minutes? The site never said anything about a pt test just a psychological & medical exam. I'm just a little freaked cause I defiantly am not in good since turning 21 I have added weight due to going to the bars and what not. I will pick that book up and thank you very much. What would be a good guess of how much you make your first year?
Sorry for asking so much I'm kind of a knowledge freak. 1.5 mile run is police, is about a 1/2 mile run sometimes just a 1/4 mile and Dummy drag about 75 feet (the dummy is about 150 lbs) then some have holding up 150 for about 1min ( don't drop it) it all depends on the department they all have one you won't know until you get called for oral interview.
All i can say is train you have a good 3 to 6 months before they call you after testing is done. Money depends on the department but your first year will be as a trainee. You will be at the bottom of the pay scale. Train yourself to get stronger and start to walk alot then move up to run short distances.
Stick with it stop the drinking if you really want this. NO SACRIFICE NO VICTORY!!!! GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS!!!! Jo1327 said: hello again,i already have my letter telling me i scored better qualified got that jan 27th,but after calling the hagerstown md office there telling me there no openings.has anyone been hired in hagerstown with a better qualifieing score this year? They pull people based on score. Highest scores first. I went to an interview for the hagerstown/cumberland area early july.
So they had openings. And me and another person declined the position at the interview. I was best qualified and i took my test mid may and got applications in june. Al in Rosedale, New York said: hello ladies & gentlemen what is the best correction officer exam book i could buy & know i could pass with no problem please reply a.s.a.p. Thank u very much Honestly, its probably not even worth the money.
Ive taken 2 exams without any book and passed both without a problem. From my experience, the tests will be alot of memorizing, some areas where you have to find sentence fragments, choosing the best word to complete a sentence and some spelling. None of which you can really use a book to study that would help. Just because there are no openings now, doesnt mean that by the time your done the process there wont be any openings.
It may take you a few months just to get notice of background/interview and then you have to do your psych test, so with all this in mind, dont doubt that there will be openings once your towards the end of the process. In maryland, u dont go through a background investigation or a psych test unless they call u for an interview. And they only call u if they have openings. However, if u scored lower than best qualified, than u might have to wait longer because bq people are called first. I know that, i wasnt telling that person that they were guaranteed to get that far i was telling them the steps to the process but i actually just called one of the regions because im getting my paper work switched from one institution to another and a lady there told me exactly that.
That just because there are openings now doesnt mean there will be later and visa versa. BaseGawD in Mount Vernon, New York said: In maryland, u dont go through a background investigation or a psych test unless they call u for an interview. And they only call u if they have openings.

Bc they did all mine on that same day. Anyway what i was trying to say was that i called one of the hiring regions and the lady said openings really didnt matter for me at this point because i wasnt done with my background check yet and that what was open now may not be open once i was done everything i needed to do. BUT then again this lady did have quite the attitude so i dont know if she was just being rude or if that was really the case. Because i had asked her if baltimore was hiring (from what im told they always are but i wanted to ask anyway) and that was her response.
You could try this Works for any exam or test once you have mastered the techique. Genius system. I haven’t been to school in several years and my thing is, if you don’t use it you lose it. Is there a book I should buy or check out that can help me so that I will at least have an idea of what’s on the test? I'm told it’s not that hard but I like to be prepared and would like any information you can give me. How long does it usually take to get placed once you have passed?
